What is this?

Pursuance is open source software that enables individuals to organize in the pursuit of shared goals.

Individuals and/or existing organizations can form or join a “pursuance” to work toward a common goal.

Pursuances combine secure task management and discussion features, allowing newcomers to quickly get up to speed and enabling productive team-wide collaboration.

Pursuances can interact with each other, cooperating on shared goals or assigning tasks to one another.

Pursuance makes the collaborative efforts of all kinds of decentralized groups more effective.

How did the Pursuances Project come to be?

Following his release from prison in 2016, Barrett Brown announced the establishment of the Pursuance Project, "a non-profit created to oversee the development of a radical new framework for “mass civic collaboration”, called the Pursuance System.

"This open source, end-to-end encrypted software will allow both individuals and existing organizations to create and grow customizable, self-organized entities called pursuances, all existing together in a visualized online space so as to better carry out both traditional and experimental forms of activist and philanthropic work. The board of directors includes Icelandic MP Birgitta Jonsdottir, whistleblower John Kiriakou, and actor and documentary filmmaker Alex Winter."

What does this have to do with Noisebridge?

Steve Phillips, who started the regular weekly Cypherpunk Saturdays Privacy Hackathon, worked with Barrett Brown and Claire Peters to form a local working group focused around implementing software to make Pursuances a reality.
