Alesis MasterControl

This thing is badass. It's a digital mixer, a MIDI control surface and a firewire DAC/ADC all rolled in one! Here's the catch, it's purpose built for specific software platforms, complete with secret proprietary drivers. This limits the unit's general purpose utility but makes it excellent for a specialized control surface for Ableton. The connection is Firewire 400, which limits how many useful computers may use this device.
