FM Broadcast
[edit | edit source]KNOB has a path to the airwaves. The RNA Lounge contains an FM transmitter inside the old NB podium at the top of the stairs, broadcasting on 87.9 FM with a range of roughly 2 blocks around Noisebridge. It's off by default but easy to switch on — when it's running, KNOB goes out over the air as well as the internet.
This means that in principle, a live DJ set at Noisebridge can reach the neighborhood in real time, and anyone within range with an FM radio can tune in without any internet connection.
Programming Schedule
[edit | edit source]When no DJ is live, KNOB runs automated programming on a 24-hour cycle:
| Time | Show | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 2am – 10am | AUTODJ | Downtempo, lofi, and eclectic tracks with station IDs |
| 10am – 11am | Pandora's Box | Mixed-genre surprise hour |
| 11am – 5pm | AUTODJ | Downtempo, lofi, and eclectic tracks with station IDs |
| 5pm – 6pm | Pandora's Box | Mixed-genre surprise hour |
| 6pm – 10pm | AUTODJ | Downtempo, lofi, and eclectic tracks with station IDs |
| 10pm – 2am | Noisefloor | Dubstep, bass music, and deep electronic |
All automated shows include station callsigns and occasional fake commercials.
How to DJ

This was the first successful stream to KNOB -- shout out to Derek from the Infrastructure Meetup for proving it out.
