Consensus Items
- Discussed. No big C items this week.
Discussion Items
1: Project Retro on downstairs cleanup and welding workshop
| On topic: | Project Retro on downstairs cleanup and welding workshop |
| From/Raised by: | Nthmost |
| Seeking: | reflections |
Naomi wants to know how the past month went, starting from when we made the contract w/ the welding class folks through to when they actually set up shop. How was it?
- Daniel: Smooth sailing
- Jet: There's been more new things at noisebridge over the last month, but its all been handled very well. No standout issues. Donation awareness portals are a good addition. Welding folks were very kind, no issues with their group at all.
- Loren: Julius and folks "Heroed" the effort with three days remaining.
- Zacchaee - NB was a more empty last week due to the welding workshop. Suggest more outreach to welding class students that may be interested in more events here at NB
- Elan- Transformation is great, good effort from all involved. Comms were fractured. Discord announcements were made but it was disorganized and not in one central place. People were making commitments to the event on behalf of NB without asking for any kind of Consensus. Suggest folks who plan these types of events should first investigate if any permits or any other city requirements are needed before committing to external event parties. Everything ended up working out in the end, but in theory this process could be improved by being more proactive on new events like this. Confirmed we are correctly zoned for "light industrial work"
- Daniel - Space requirements came together last minute but they were sufficient for the welding group.
- Loren - Interested in exploring cost/profit of other large scale projects/classes.
- Elan - Anyone interested in volunteering for dragon project should speak to him.
- Group - Discussion about how to rearrange the downstairs space now that the welding workshop is finished. Flaschentaschen is ready for final testing and final placement.
2: Posting to Luma(?)
| On topic: | Posting to Luma(?) |
| From/Raised by: | Topher |
| Seeking: | conversation |
* Is there a cost involved with Meetup vs Luma? * Meetup may now be a low/no-cost option as a non-profit * Luma may have some issues allowing folks to join anonymously * Initial push to change to Luma may no longer be necessary
- Loren: internal-only visible self-hosted meetup thing called Mobile Liason (?) -- ssh access to pony, we could try something like that there -- encourageppl who want to centralize NB event knowledge to thin of that as teh event info target -- under our control, API interactions, etc. Luma limitations: user and calendars are shared/managed and w/o paying we can only have 3 admins. it's Loren (personal), treasurer account, and Jet as admin. Was thinking about reaching out to Luma for nonprofit sweeatheart deal but. not attached to that. based on Elan's comments, feels fruitful to advocate for which platforms are good for what. would like to work w/ ppl on which platforms are
- Naomi: +1
- Zeph: these are all new to me but maybe has it been suggested to do email forwarding? burner phones, emails as a solution to any of this? to get everybody on one page.
- Jet: i was pushing for Luma more, reached a larger demographic, more tech-focused. but also we'd have to migrate a lot of services, emails that could be migrated, benefit of which isn't super clear or not worth
- Loren: it could be cool to drive but we should motivate more like a guild structure thing to moderate and make sure events get out there. Not necessarily universally... electronics guild has their own thing on the wiki, there are levels of gradation and as much as legibility sounds nice, it also forces things into centralization possibly awkwardly.
3: Fashion Guild offering to help with the space more
| On topic: | Fashion Guild offering to help with the space more |
| From/Raised by: | Joseph |
| Seeking: | advice |
- Joseph: so me and others have been coming for a while, we were trying to figure out how to get more involved w/ stuff here.
- Naomi: want to help w/ the Flaschentaschen? (that's sort of how ppl get involved w/ stuf)
- Joseph: Yeah i see the space is doing a glow-up, just wanted to see how we can help out
- Naomi: HMU about putting up cool lights
- Joseph - Wants to help bring more folks in and help them feel comfortable in teh space. Suggesting a sewing machine downstairs for raising awareness about quick/easy alterations. Will be advocating for promoting Fashion Guild events with tickets with the intention of donating proceeds to NB.
- Elan - There was a time when Fashion and Laser cutting had a crossover. Could be a good way to cross-pollinate interest.
- Dennis - Curious about how to contribute as a new member.
- Zacchae - Suggests looking at the meetup.com/noisebridge site to lookup events and use this as a source of truth for updating the whiteboard schedule upstairs. As far as Fashion Guild goes, would be great to get more clases coming out of Fashion Guild as well as knowledge share about how to fix/maintain the machines in the sewing room.
4: Parking ticket community service here?
| On topic: | Parking ticket community service here? |
| From/Raised by: | Joseph |
| Seeking: | outcome |
Joseph wanted to point out there's a community service option for people paying off parking tickets and NB can be a option for that.
- Elan: Yeah, i've been on that, actually -- and community service outreach contacts were set as Naomi and Jet
- To be continued on discord..
- Daniel is volunteering to be added to the list of City accepted signatories.
- City may need a "manager for a space"
- Elan - City informs us we may only need to "pre-register" with the city to be a recognized signatory. This is the baseline required for someone to sign off on volunteer hours.
5: Board elections
| On topic: | Board elections |
| From/Raised by: | Zacchae |
| Seeking: | outcome |
- Zacchae: Oh hey yeah, we need to get board elections going!
- Loren: acc to bylaws, cpl steps we need to do -- nominating committee, in the past Mark has spearheaded this on his own, they hear nominations from ppl and get confirmations that ppl ACCEPT their nomination (someone on the board didn't really want to be nominated!). we announced a month ago we would have board elections right about now, a lot of board members are busy w/ stuff. Nomination committee may or may not be current board members. Google form + reaching out to ppl
- Elan: b/c this is coming up quickly if you want to nominate yourself or someone else email secretary@noisebridge.net. Also considering nominations on Discord. How voting will be handled is yet to be decided but that can be handled apart from nominations.
- Naomi: Historically voting has been a pain point. Nearly every year NB "considers" how we do board voting. a curiousity.
- Loren: Suggesting a google form to provide a centralized list of nominations.
- Naomi: Suggest continuing further discussion on Discord..THIS is a wrapup suggestion.
- Loren: Suggest looking at historical procedure to set a baseline of nominee/voting process.
Do-ocratic Task Board
Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!
- What wiki pages need updating? What new wiki pages do we need? Discovered from the meeting.
