Full general meetings happen on first of month mondays, with the rest of the month's mondays following a shorter discussion notes template.

The goal is shorter meetings, by way of fewer prompts to sidetrack discussions. We heard many complaints of meetings running too long, and saw people choosing to involve themselves less in meetings because of their long, drawn out nature. However, during other meetings, people will often ask to address other topics, sometimes even bringing up topics they don't want to address, as part of a too-honest, or really too-thorough, adherence to half-remembered process.

We started this practice in less active times. Perhaps with active membership drives and more active meetings, we could increase frequency of fuller meetings from 1st mondays to 1st and 3rd mondays. However this change would likely cause slightly more confusion. IMO the current balance is best.

Lessening confusion, might entail, publishing topics and seeking comment before the meeting begins, to help written notes guide a faster meeting, and help set a higher bar for prepared proposals to the meeting. It might be especially culturally helpful to emphasize the idea, goal, ideal practice, of shopping around ideas before a meeting, rather than springing controversial but incompletely explored ideas on the meeting group.
