|Make Space at Noisebridge with a Sewing Yard Sale | |||
|Situation: Sewing has machines than it can not fit in the given space that are not being used. In fact, it is storing machinery in 6 different rooms/areas of the Capp St. location. Meanwhile, sewing folks are being crowded out of work spaces. The result is quite a few other guilds are being crowded by Sewing's surplus. And machines many are looking for, like the vinyl cutter, are being degraded into garbage by being kicked about from one space to another, having lost its space to a different Sewing industrial machine. This is a great problem to have and a great solutions presents itself: sell off the surplus for the benefit of Noisebridge! | |||
Proposal: Sewing arrange to sell through a public sale several of the excess machines. Items and, at the same time, replace some of the lesser quality domestic machines with new machines. The net cost to NB will be a significant positive and the funds may be used to off set the cost of Sewing's upgrade from this year. Estimate for current proposed items to be sold at $2000. For more information, see here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14JgKwG_oYCi5PiIuemD-m6NoVgKBqMrLnAYrKiNw8Uc/edit?usp=sharing
Sale items will be advertised in several locations locally, including Facebook Marketplace and Ebay (for the knitting machine). Sewing folks may bring their own items to sell at sale BUT must remain on site and remove immediately after sale. Sale will take place on a single Saturday morning. Pick up and payment to be determined win discussion with the guild and the Treasurer.

| September 5th, 2023 | proposed by Mark | 2 member block -- for only freeform motions -- temporary 3 month effect, renew | Renewing May 23rd, 2023 Consensus Item
REVIEW AGAIN on AUGUST 27th, 2024 Updating blocking requirement for big C consensus items from 1 to 2 people. Currently in order to block a big C consensus Item, we need only 1 member to block. Would like to update this number to 2 members. Perhaps the 1 member to block made sense when the community was tiny. It doesn't make sense anymore in our much larger community. If you cant convince anyone else to block with you, then maybe you just have bad ideas. The community should not have to make changes only folks with bad ideas think are good. This change would be provisional for 3 months [from May 23, 2023]. Also would only apply for member proposed consensus items, non-member proposed consensus items would still be block able by a single member. Also only 1 member would be required to block new membership. Also if any one member would like to block, but cannot because they are alone, they can request a 1 week hold to defer decision for an additional 3rd week. |
